Bus Loads

Student organizations utilizing buses for off-campus events are responsible for ensuring that bus companies and drivers follow all University expectations.

Organizations, their members, guests, and bus drivers must be mindful of nearby residential areas and the broader campus community. This includes:

  • Minimizing noise, especially during late-night hours
  • Properly disposing of trash
  • Staying away from closed University facilities and lawns
  • Ensuring buses reduce unnecessary noise by turning off engines when possible and avoiding loud music

Failure to follow these expectations may result in conduct referrals for individuals and/or the organization.

Bus Staging Locations

  • When not actively transporting students, buses should stage in the Coleman Coliseum Southeast Commuter Parking Lot.
  • If there is a major event at Coleman Coliseum or parking is unavailable, buses should stage in the Northeast Commuter Parking Lot.
  • The majority of buses should remain in these designated staging areas for the duration of the event.
  • Organizations may have one to two buses remain in the pick-up/drop-off area to actively shuttle students to and from the event.

Free Speech and Civil Discourse

The University of Alabama supports the free exchange of ideas and recognizes the importance of free speech and civil discourse within the campus community. Student organizations and their members are encouraged to engage in respectful dialogue, share diverse perspectives, and participate in conversations that contribute to a welcoming learning environment.

As a public institution, UA protects the rights of individuals to express their views while also maintaining expectations that expression does not disrupt the rights of others or interfere with University operations.

Student organizations planning programs, events, or activities involving expressive content should:

  • Encourage respectful and civil dialogue.
  • Ensure activities comply with applicable University policies and procedures.
  • Respect the rights of others to engage in protected expression.
  • Follow all event registration and facility use requirements.

Additional Guidance

Student organizations are responsible for understanding University guidance related to free speech, civil discourse, institutional neutrality and political activities.

For detailed information, including frequently asked questions and University policies, please visit the Free Speech, Civil Discourse and Institutional Neutrality guidance page.

Tailgates

Student organizations (both Greek and non-Greek) wishing to secure a reserved tailgating location on the Quad or on the UA Student Center Lawn during the regular football season should request a space via mySOURCE registration.

Requests/registrations should be at least 10-14 business days in advance, with the understanding that priority will be given in order of registration (and to unhoused groups for Greek tailgating spots). The specific and accurate time that a group wishes to tailgate should be reflected in the event registration.

Game Day

All UA Gameday tailgating policies should be followed. Additionally:

  • Organizations must set up in their designated spot.
  • Organizations should not publicly advertise tailgates.
  • Groups should not play excessively loud music or music with inappropriate or disrespectful lyrics.
  • Tents larger than 20’x30’, risers/platforms and portable/mobile bars are not allowed.
  • Tents larger than 10’x10′ should not be staked – they must be weighted.
  • There should be no common source alcohol or drinking games.
  • Organizations should follow any international/national organization policies as applicable.

All tailgate items must be removed by the designated time. Unsecured items left are at tailgaters’ own risk.

Organizations that have been approved to tailgate in a reserved space each week will receive an email on the Friday before the game with additional guidelines and information, including but not limited to:

  • Set-up and take-down time frame
  • Electricity information

For more information on tailgating policies, please refer to UA Gameday.
